SASSA August 2026 Payment Dates
SASSA has confirmed the August 2026 payment schedule for permanent grants, and the money lands early in the month over three staggered days. Older Persons Grants are paid on Tuesday, 4 August 2026. Disability Grants follow on Wednesday, 5 August 2026. Children’s Grants, including the Child Support Grant, are paid on Thursday, 6 August 2026.
A fourth date, Friday, 7 August 2026, is reserved only for beneficiaries flagged for a grant review or eLife Certification, not for everyone. The SRD R370 grant is not part of this early cycle and pays separately near the end of the month. All three main dates fall on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, so no weekend or public holiday shifts them.
Payment dates at a glance
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 4 August 2026
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 5 August 2026
- Children’s Grants (Child Support, Foster Child, Care Dependency): Thursday, 6 August 2026
- Grant review and eLife Certification day: Friday, 7 August 2026
- SRD R370 grant: end-of-month batch, roughly the final week
Why there is a fourth payment day
The fourth day is the part most beneficiaries misunderstand. Friday, 7 August is not a bonus or a general payday. It is set aside for people SASSA has flagged for a social grant review or eLife Certification, a check carried out under the Social Assistance Act to confirm you are still eligible and to prevent fraud. If you are affected, you receive an SMS in advance. After you are paid on this day, you must visit your nearest SASSA office to complete the review. If you do not, your grant can be suspended the following month. This is why keeping your cell number and address current with SASSA matters so much, because outdated details mean you miss the notification.
When does the SRD R370 grant pay in August?
The Social Relief of Distress grant does not follow the early-month schedule. It is processed in a separate batch near the end of August, and SASSA does not publish a fixed SRD calendar. Your exact date depends on your batch, your payment method and bank processing times. Check your status first at sassa-status.web.za or on WhatsApp before you travel anywhere, and only move once it shows approved with a payment date. The SRD grant stays at R370 per month and has been extended to 31 March 2027.

One deadline to note before the end of August
Postbank has confirmed that all remaining SASSA Gold Cards stop working on 31 August 2026. If you still use a Gold Card, contact Postbank or visit an official replacement site before the deadline so your September payment is not disrupted. Never pay anyone to obtain or activate a replacement card.
A few practical reminders
Once your grant is deposited into a bank or Postbank account, the money stays there safely. You do not need to withdraw it all on payday, and waiting a day or two helps you avoid the busiest queues at ATMs and retailers such as Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Checkers. Finally, treat any message promising a double payment, a bonus or an extra August allowance as a scam unless SASSA confirms it through official channels.
